Is MLB not as popular as NFL & NBA because there are no flashy personalities in baseball?
Baseball is a indeed a "slower" game than Football or Basketball. Those who don't know the game do not see or understand the "action" that goes on between pitches. Strategies, match-ups, player positioning, and a multitude of mind games are being played out between pitches. Baseball is not for people who want mind-numbing entertainment. As one post said, the popularity of baseball is back on the rise; in part because some NBA and NFL athletes hop, skip, beat their chests, etc. when they make the simplest of plays. They have, in my opinion, degraded their sports to mere entertainment, which is why the NBA only partially resembles real basketball and why NCAA March Madness is so popular. Soon the NBA will have as much in common with college basketball as the WWE has in common with real wrestling on the Olympic or NCAA level. Can you see Derek Jeter making a routine play at short, throwing the ball to 1st base and then chest bumping A-rod? Not likely. When they make a big play they do celebrate with their teammates. Do these players have charisma? Absolutely. They just don't make fools of themselves over routine plays.
