Do you need tamps for track?

well if I'm doing track do I need them?I'm 15 and just joined track like 2 wks ago and I'm gonna get my period this week but should I get tampons? I am scared to death to ask my mom she always picks out the pads and I usually have no say in what type we get since she still has her period. I like ones small w/ wings sincce my period is light but my mom always gets the ginormous ones w/ no wing and even if I tell her she will be like oh they didnt have any!! I already tried tampons with out her knowing and love them but I m scared to ask. I talk to her and we are close just not about periods and stuff that have to do w/ bodily functions. I havent talked to her about my period in like 2 years and its scares the crap out of me that she will say no. Once when we ran out of pads she was like oh why dont you try tamps then quickly said oh n/v I dont want you to lose your virginity? Please help me I start shaking at the touhgt of asking her.
